About Mindful Journey

Counsellor

ACA,PACFA Registered

Hello, I’m Kristy.

I’m a Diploma-qualified Counsellor and member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). I’m passionate about providing a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where children, adolescents and adults can feel heard, understood, valued and supported.

My journey into counselling has been shaped by a combination of professional training and meaningful personal life experiences. As a neurodivergent individual and the mother of two wonderful neurodivergent children, I have developed a deep understanding of the unique strengths and challenges that neurodivergent individuals and their families may experience. My daughter also lives with additional support needs, which has further strengthened my appreciation for advocacy, patience, inclusion, understanding and truly individualised support.

My own experience of grief, including the profound loss of my sister, has also had a significant impact on my life and the counsellor I am today. Experiencing such a personal loss has given me an understanding of the complex and deeply individual nature of grief. It has reinforced my belief that there is no right or wrong way to grieve and that sometimes, simply having a safe space to be heard, without judgement or expectations, can be incredibly important.

These lived experiences, alongside my professional training, inspired my passion for walking alongside others as they navigate difficult times, life changes and personal challenges. I believe every person has their own unique story, and my role is not to tell you how to live yours, but to support you in understanding yourself, recognising your strengths and finding strategies that feel right for you.

I offer counselling support across a broad range of areas, including general counselling, anxiety and phobias, depression, stress and burnout, trauma, grief and loss, anger management, behavioural challenges, impulsive behaviours, addictions and alcohol and other drug (AOD) concerns, conflict resolution, relationship and couples concerns, family relationships, parenting challenges, school-related issues, work-related concerns and coping with disability.

I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent individuals, people living with disability, children and young people experiencing behavioural or emotional challenges, and parents and carers. I understand that every individual and family is different, and I aim to provide support that recognises each person’s strengths, needs, circumstances and goals.

Alongside emotional support, I am passionate about helping clients develop practical skills that can support greater confidence, resilience and independence in everyday life. This may include strategies for emotional regulation, coping with difficult emotions, communication, problem-solving, building healthy relationships and boundaries, developing self-esteem and confidence, navigating conflict and strengthening everyday life skills.

When working with children and adolescents, I use age-appropriate, engaging and individualised approaches to create an environment where young people can feel comfortable expressing themselves. I can support children and young people experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural challenges, school-related concerns, family changes, grief and loss, disability-related challenges and difficulties with confidence and self-esteem. Where appropriate, I value working collaboratively with parents, carers and other professionals involved in a young person’s life.

Grief and loss support holds a particularly meaningful place in my work. Loss can take many forms, from the death of someone we love to relationship breakdowns, changes in health or ability, employment changes, identity changes and other significant life transitions. I provide a compassionate space where clients can process their experiences and emotions at their own pace, while gently working towards rebuilding confidence, adjusting to change and finding hope and meaning moving forward.

My counselling approach is warm, person-centred, collaborative and evidence-informed. I recognise that counselling is not a one-size-fits-all process, which is why I tailor my approach to the individual sitting in front of me. Together, we can explore what is happening in your life, identify what matters most to you and develop meaningful and achievable strategies that support your wellbeing and personal goals.

At Mindful Journey, my goal is simple: to walk alongside you with compassion, respect and understanding. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your child or your family, you deserve a space where you can feel heard and supported as you navigate life’s challenges, recognise your strengths and build the confidence and resilience to move forward—one step at a time.
